New Orleans, 9th August 1883

Subject: Murder of Marion Allen re Gulf & Panama Docks.

Victim was found murdered at Gulf & Panama Docks on night of 8th August. Victim was identified as Mr. Marion Allen of Arkham, Massachusetts by concierge and staff at Monteleone Hotel. Injuries were consistent with bludgeoning by a heavy blunt object which was unable to be located and showed signs of ritual mutilation after death. Most obvious result of this was the removal of victim’s tongue which was not located.

No witnesses were found to be at the scene, and victim was found behind Warehouse No. 23 at the docks. A discarded standard brown paper box was found next to the victim which implied that motive was robbery. All personal effects were still on the body of victim when patrol discovered the body:. Gold wristwatch, Wooden Cane, Wallet containing automobile license and 33 dollars and personal photo.

Victim had previously approached New Orleans P.D. with claims of his being stalked and with fears of bodily harm being done to him and claiming they were after an ‘Egyptian artifact’ that he no longer had in his possession.

Upon investigation no leads, witnesses, or weapons were found. It is the recommendation of this officer that the case be closed and placed on review in a year from this date.

ARKHAM ADVERISER

14 Jan 1920 - A murder investigation has been launched in Ross Corner after the bodies of two missing women were discovered this morning. The women who died were Michelle McPhirter, 32, and Ma Peters, 54, both of Ross Corners. Mrs McPhirter had been reported missing on Saturday when she had failed to return from checking her barn the previous night. A search was organized but failed to locate her. Ma Peters was reported missing on Monday and her disappearance prompted another search but with local authorities from Arkham being brought in to assist.

Accounts vary as to what happened next but Arkham police have stated that the bodies of both women have been located and that three suspects have been placed in custody with another being searched for. No further details have been given as the crime scene is being investigated and all possible leads being followed. Police however did say that they were looking for a Eduardo Manchato as a ‘person of interest’. Known to have been a resident of Arkham, police have requested the public’s aid in finding this man.

Local residents have told this reporter that the property is owned by a Mr. Merriweather of Arkham although he rarely visited. Speculation is also rife about the house being known as a ‘haunted ghost house’ with other locals describing what can only be described as sacrifical ‘Devil-worship’ taking place at the home with the two local women being killed as part of a ‘Satanic Ritual’.
